While studying in Hong Kong, I took up a part-time job at a local tattoo and piercing shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. I had met the owner by getting several piercings done by her and ended up seeing her job offer online and applying. While working at the shop, I noticed inconsistencies in the branding and unprofessional documents so I decided to offer my manager a rebranding.

While working with this client, several sub-brands emerged, and I was tasked with making them work as a cohesive company.
The main brand is “Karma Tattoo and Piercing”, the shop I was working in, which already had an existing Logo and Instagram that needed revision.
In the same shop, the owner also offered toothgem applications and SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) which both had their own separate Instagram accounts.

Additionally, the owner requested to refine her personal artist’s brand as a tattooist which consisted of a logo, Instagram templates, and a physical tattoo portfolio with a price listing.

After working at the counter of the tattoo shop for several months, I realized that many customers had questions regarding the pricing of tattoos and were interested in seeing some of the artist's work. Many of these times, my manager wasn't present and I could only show the customers her Instagram and a sticky note with the pricing written on it. That is what inspired me to create a full printed portfolio in which the artist could add all of her new flash designs as well as photos of her prior work.
After working with me on social media matters and her portfolio and being very happy with the results, the client was eager to request another product: a shop website
As my experience with web design was limited I was commited to learn quick and be flexible, seeking feedback from others and taking any advise I could get. The challenge was to comine all the different services Karma offers into one coheisive and easily readable site.
The finished site is divided into three main parts:
-
The landing page with an introduction to the business and brand identity, the working artists and the offered services.
-
Separate pages for each service category; tattoos, piercings, and toothgems
-
A shop site with an overview of the pricing for each service and a detailed description of them, as well as links to book said services

To make the site more readable and certain chunks of text stand out, I designed an array of icons in black and white to fit the monochrome color scheme of the brand.
